York County Medical Foundation was founded in 1991 and is headed by Dr. Vasudevan Tiruchelvam, of York, Pennsylvania. York County Medical Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to providing medical care and humanitarian relief to the poor, the distressed, and the underprivileged, both locally and internationally.

YCMF has contributed to a wide variety of organizations locally over 17 years and raised funds to bring children from the third-world to York Hospital for surgeries that are unavailable in their native countries.
 
Recently the foundation has focused on three areas of pressing need:

Housing in Sri Lanka: After 30,000 deaths and the destruction of 100,000 homes along the coasts of Sri Lanka by the tsunami of 2004, York County Medical Foundation, in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity, has constructed 15 new homes there thus far. 

Clinic in post-Katrina New Orleans: YCMF raised funds to open a clinic for low-income women in New Orleans. The New Orleans Women's Clinic opened its doors on May 1, 2007.

Surgical Mission to Laos: In 2006 York County Medical Foundation sent a team of 13 volunteers to Laos. YCMF surgeons provided free reconstructive facial surgery to children, laparoscopic procedures for adults, and OBGYN services at that country's principal hospitals.

York County Medical Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity recognized by the IRS; it is supported entirely by charitable donations. The foundation has no paid fundraisers or paid employees. All donations go directly to the foundation's humanitarian activities. All donations to the foundation are tax-deductible.
